Mary Crossett was my husbands Granny. This picture was taken in a Belfast market without her knowledge in the late 50’s. It was discovered by family when published in the News Letter.

Her Grandchildren tell many stories of Mary, and in all of them she is what can be described as a force to be reckoned with. The fierce determination on her face is how she faced all aspects of her life.

The basket Mary is carrying was occasionally used to show her displeasure when a car was parked on a footpath. If the basket accidentally caused damage to paintwork, she felt that would have been avoided if the driver had been more considerate of pedestrians!

The message inside reads Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
